If it makes you feel any better, I didn't go to the party either. Two of our friends came round and we had a sensationally good curry and a few beers. We excoriated Martin Amis (at whose vapid lecture one of our friends had spent the earlier part of the evening) and engaged in some Premiership book criticism. Not to mention a lively debate over which of the Williams sisters is the more attractive. Frankly, much more fun than spending hours on a train/plane to endure the paranoia of 'My editor spend three minutes more talking to him than she did to me, oh god, my career is over.'

Strong reactions are always good. Means you managed to push someone's buttons! And, you're right. Definitely makes for a more lively discussion. Also happy to hear you were able to discuss the whole book for a change.
